Several attractions and leisure activities in Dubai center around water and certainly you will notice amazing flowerbeds and lush grass in many parks, but where does all this water come from?

40 years ago Dubai had no reliable fresh water. The first source of water was a pond in Karama and later water wells but population increases have meant a rise in demand for fresh, clean water.

Today Dubai produces its potable water from the sea, producing about 1.26 billion litres per day. The UAE consumes more water per person than any other country in the world except the USA and Canada.

Dubai, along with the other major cities within the UAE, lies along the coast. Summers are dry, hot and high in humidity. Winters are warm to hot with some rain possible between November and March.

Inland, desert regions are sunny and very hot during the day with cool and even cold nights, especially in winter, with very little rainfall.

Most visitors find the winter months comfortable but leisure resort activities take good advantage of the summer weather. Dubai is a popular destination year round and provides a perfect mid-point for further travel beyond.
