Did You Know?

Beginning from its source, the Rhône Glacier in the Swiss Alps, the Rhône River passes through Lake Geneva before being joined by the Saône River at Lyon as it continues south along the Rhône Valley. Here it is joined by a succession of other rivers until at Arles, the Rhône forms the Camargue delta, western Europe's largest river delta, emptying into the Mediterranean Sea.

The Camargue itself consisting of lakes cutoff by sandbars and reedy marshes is a protected regional park renowned for it's wildlife. With more than 400 species of birds, notably the flamingo, the Camargue is also home to fighting bulls and horses, as well as sheep.

The Camargue is a natural treasure trove of flora, fauna and history, a great holiday destination for those interested in outdoor activities.

France is one of the most diverse countries on earth. From the southern mediterranean coast across to the harsh Brittany shore line, to the valleys of the Dordogne, the hills of Provence and the peaks of the Alps, there is a geographic mix quite unlike any other.

France

France, as Europe’s largest country, has a varied geography, from long coastal stretches to mountain ranges to central regions with dominating river valleys. These all influence climatic conditions.

Winters in mountain regions bring snow – especially for the snow resorts in the Alps and the Pyrennes in the west. Summer in these regions though, is usually warm and sunny.

In the west, showers can occur throughout the year but the sunniest part of the country is typically along the Mediterranean coast, with hot, dry summers and cool, comfortable winter temperatures.

France offers plenty of attractions throughout the year. Summer is naturally a popular time to take advantage of France’s waterways and rural attractions but winter will see less crowds and is a perfect time to consider skiing in some of Europe’s best ski fields. This is also a time when rates can be lower.
